so, my website appears to have been hacked.... or something. i noticed today that the admins had disabled my domain -- ftp, email, and all -- i emailed them and they won't reinstate it unless i pay 50$ (and i'm paying $3.95 a month)... this is all they tell me....

msg1:

The account has been suspended because, 1. the password has been comprimised hundreds of times and 2. the Main page loads a trojan (bloodhound.exploit).
Per Gary there is a $50 fee for restoring this page and you will be required to fix your website so the trojan no longer loads.

If you choose to pay this you can send payment via paypal to sales@dixiesys.com for $50. If you don't have a paypal account we'll have to come up with another solution.

This is straigt from Joe.

His password was given out, or compromised by HUNDREDS of people - any one of which could have loaded the data. The $50 reinstatement stays... it took a LOT of work to clean that up.

so, i get the impression that they don't really want to explain things to me... so can someone here shed some light on what the heck happened to my website? what kind of stuff do they have to clean up? and would it be bad if i just packed up and left w/o paying 50$? i feel bad to do that, but 50$ is a whole lot, esp compared to the 3.95 i was suppsoed to be paying per month. i'd rather not switch if i dont have to. and now i had to go change all my passwords... 🙁

I used Dixiesys for a very long time and they are a reputable host. What were you hosting, and do you know anything about how/why it was hacked?

if HUNDREDS of people were getting into places they weren't supposed to, you were NOT hacked, sounds like you posted your password somewhere and were doing naughty things

too bad

BS. All they had to do was change your password and remove a simple script entry that was loading the trojan. If the password was compromised so much, they should have told you before it reached "hundreds of times". Get another host!

Doesn't sound like it was hacked only messed with....apparently
other people had access to it and messed it up. It sounds like your options
are to pay the charge for their time and trouble fixing the site or move on to another
hosting service.
