So I work for a website that's going to have a reader gathering on Wednesday in a bar/restaurant setting. There have been about 50 RSVPs so far, and other than their +1's, most people don't know each other at all I'm imagining.

What ideas would you have for us, the "leaders" to do in terms of icebreakers or fun group activities?

The demographic is similar to that of the typical Anandtech reader..i.e. lots of nerdy guys :)

break into groups of 10 and tell your most embarassing moment (should be helarious w/ that demographic).

sounds like a game for a junior high camp retreat.

You're at a bar. Drink, play pool, darts etc. Bring a couple decks of cards and play some drinking games...

It is bound to failure... nerds are nerds for a reason... they are inherently anti-social. That being said, I applaud you for trying.

I think something simple like "Tell us one interesting thing about yourself" is good enough. It is not junior high so don't get too in to the "ice breaker" games. :)

I think a great conversation starter in a bar is a box of Trivial Pursuit cards. Easy to segue into a variety of conversations about the topics.
