Hey everybody,

Once again, I am coming to you all for feedback/comments. I am wondering what you think of my site design, layout, color choices, etc. for a site I'm designing for my Mom's company. This is the first site I have designed, so please don't hold back on comments or criticism. Anything is appreciated very much. One thing I want to point out is that the Contact page has something that I think is pretty cool on it (a nifty way of displaying contact info).

Looks like something is missing under the nav.

Background is non-existant, use a subtle color if necessary. (EDIT: Oh, there is a bg color. Too subtle!)

Everything is flat, objects (header, body, footer) should be divided better.

Text is navigation should be thicker (use a bolder font).

I've never approved of websites that only use a portion of the allocated space. If done incorrectly, it looks kinda stupid and, well, bad.
 
My critiques: I don't like the pink for some reason. Also, I don't think the contrast between your background and text is that good. Maybe reverse them?

If you could elaborate, what do you mean by "divided better"? Should I put space between them or a "separator" that is a different color or something? The background does have color, it's just a very light grey... I'll toy with some different colors for it. Thanks!

Hehe... the pink was my Mom's choice, as you might have guessed. She seems pretty set in wanting it, so I am just trying to cater to her wishes. I'll see how reversing the background and text colors looks. Thank you!

It's hard to explain it in words, but there should be some sort of transition. Going straight from one color to a completely different one is an assault on ones eyes. Even a light-colored border around each element would probably help.

OK, thanks. That gives me a better idea of what to try. I'll give a border a shot and see how it looks.

The green has been the bane of my existence. I have tried several different shades, and found one that looked really good in Illustrator, but when paired with the background color of virtually nothing, it didn't contrast well at all. I'll take a look at the link. Thanks!
 
I guess my critique of the 'specialness' of the Contact page wasn't worth noting by the OP.

Nice idea but the dirty thumbnail absolutely kills it. The dirty thumbnail was the first thing I noticed on that page and I would have never contacted the company for potential business after seeing that.

Or are you only wanting color, spacing, and font suggestions OP? 😕

I honestly never even noticed the dirty thumbnail, but now that I do, you're right, it totally kills it. Maybe I'll try and clean it up in photoshop or something... What I thought was special about it is that the image was a stock photo (a guy with a dirty thumbnail holding up a blank business card) and I added the contact info onto it in Illustrator.

Thank you for pointing that out since I really didn't even notice it.
