Website access problem on Win2k

I have Win2k Sp4 running on a Dell 400sc 2.4 ghz. When I click a web link, IE 6 cannot seem to access the given site. The progress bar goes about 1/3 across and never gets any further and I never get to the site. It is not my ISP, router, or modem, since other computers in the house have no access problems using our WIFI set up. This problem is intermittent? sometimes sites pop right up and browsing is fast. Other times, sites refuse to load and only a reboot will clear the problem. Anybody have any ideas to help me out? TIA.

I downloaded SpyBotSD. It found & removed some spyware which seemed to fix my problem. I also turned off cookies - I hate the damned things anyway! Thanks for your help, Sdgserv.
