Hi there, There was a thread in the hot deals section regarding the webramp router. A lot of information and questions and answers were well outlined in this thread of over 700 posts that helped a lot of people. I know the thread most likely dissapeared due to so many people asking for a particular hack. Is there any way to get the thread ressurected but locked so we can at least link to it when someone tries to explain something to someone asking something in the new thread? Or if you don't deem it worthy of being in hot deals forum could you move it general hardware or off topic? I and several others would really like to see this useful thread reappear. thank you.

The situation has been posted for moderator discussion. Thank you.

Why not put a FAQ together based on the contents of the thread?

MODs? Can you send him the text of the thread? Or resurrect it long enough of a FAQ to be created? Or give Andyhui access to it?

I think that's a great idea. If you could just make the thread available for a short period of time, or send it to me i can write up a quick faq and save everyone the trouble and then post it in general hardware.

There was also another thread in the Hot Deals forum, but this one got deleted too just now. Why? I need the links to buy this product, as I didn't save them.
What do the mods/Anandtech have against posting a "hot deal" like this?

Probably the fact that members are discussing and posting links to illegally modifying the unit.

I would be very happy if someome were to do a FAQ on it since I bought one. I am not interested in hacks at all, I just want info.

Any chance Andy or someone else wants to do a "AT Approved" version?

At least just allow someone to post the links for the Unoffical support, where to get them, etc. The hack posters were dumb and it didn't help that peeps kept asking for them. Reminds me of coupon beggers.

But I don't see why they should have been deleted, locked perhaps with hack sites deleted.

Hopefully the Mod/Mods will allow us to post about the Webramp/Sonicwalls as it seems all of the posts get deleted.

I read something that the Webramp 700s doesn't have "triggered ports". So most online games won't work with it. Is this true? Also games using DirectPlay won't work at all.

It seems to me that the best place to go for information on this subject (purely the informational or technological queries) is the networking matrix on Ars Technica. May as well ask your questions there, chances of a thread on the subject survivng here are slim with all of the hack beggars. They have a few over there as well, but they shut down the hack beggars and keep the thread open. Just FYI.

I missed the original thread, so pardon my ignorance but:
If you own the unit, how can hacking it be illegal?

It involved an illegal firmware/software hack that allowed the router to perform tasks not supposed to be performed. This involved a key generator which allowed VPN, etc.
