webpage help (adding news w/o editing html)

I have news that i'd like to add to the middle of my webpage... so instead of having to edit the html page every time i update my news, i wanted to just fill out a form with the date and my name and the news....

is cgi-bin the correct way to go ? asp? i dunno...

any info would help!

thanks!

cgi, asp, php, etc are all different methods to do similar things, and all would be suitable for what you want to do.

There are a lot of premade PHP news scripts that you can download and install on your site. Try here. There's a big list of different scripts. For my site, I use my forums. I created a special forum for news only and anything I post there gets shown on my main page, formatted to fit the design of my main page.

now if someone could provide a link as to how to USE php that'd be dandy 🙂

I don't think anyone is gonna hold your hand through this - you're gonna have to learn how to use Google and do some reading. There's way too much ground to cover in a post on these forums.

If you are hosting the page on a remote server, they must have PHP installed. If you are hosting the page on your own computer, install a web server such as Apache or IIS and then install PHP.

Unless of course you're willing to pay someone for their time 😉

My rate is $100-125/hour so you wouldn't want me (and my server experience is mostly with ASP anyway), but there are other people here who could do the work fairly cheap.
