I'm a semi newbie to all of this, so i was wondering if you guys can help me out.

A guy i used to work in the summer(I work for him on and off now) for was contacted by a another guy who has a non-profit organization. His website has a donation page (I think, or I was told), but would now like a donation page that would be secure (the lock on the bottom of the browser).

I'm looking for information on how to go about this.

Thanks

Good Grief - Here is how you do it.

Create a new page. In the HTML at the top of the page, put something like.

<Secure Page - Encrypted for Security Purposes>

Then space down about 50 or so spaces.

There you have it. A secure page.

I think you gotta setup a domain and all that bs...but for a regular page...goto www.bravenet.com they have something called "PASSWORD GATE(protection" Basicly what it does is makes ya enter a user name and password to get access to a certain page on the server.

<edit> Ohhhhh I see what your saying...a SECURE page...not a password gate thingy...I dont know how to do it but im sure somone here does...good luck :) </edit>

look up payment gateways...something like digicash or even paypal can provide the services you are looking for.

If someone who wants to make a donation to the organization via credit card, the page would be "secure," like making an online purchase. There is a website already, just no secure page for making the donation transaction.

I'll look up payment gateways.

Thanks

You'll need a way to accept online payments.. Either a merchant account, or a third party billing company. I'm pretty sure that http://www.ibill.com can help you get something setup. They'll charge a few percent of each transaction, and maybe a setup fee. Check em out.

You'll need the page on a server that has support for SSL. Don't have that, you won't have a secure page.
