webhosters/website owners: how much bandwidth...

how much bandwidth does a typical domain use per month ? Say they would sometimes share 30MB files openly once in a while on top of their own personal website. Is 15GB/mo. more than enough?

I got 15gb from Cernax, and the only time I came close, is when I hosted up a 200mb file and I was the only host for it. Otherwise I have an additional 400mb in various 10-20mb files and I usually only end up using maybe 7gb...

This is with many users mirroring files on their own site, however.

Most people don't really even need more than 1GB of bandwidth to be honest. When purchasing hosting space think about what you'll actually use, lots of space goes unused, because rather than getting tons of space for cheap you can get less space/bandwidth for the same price from a higher quality provider.

With 15GB/month, that file can be downloaded a bit more than 500 times.

I would reccomend personally starting with the smallest plan your host has and upgrading when you need to.

I'll probably start again some time soon too... I call them... Picture Parodies!

If you share 30MB files publically (like posting a link on ATOT) then I would definitely go for 15GB.

Otherwise 5GB should be enough, just make sure your web host makes upgrading 1) easy and 2) affordable.

5GB is more than enough for sharing a few files between your friends and running a website.

I offered people to be able to upload files to my website via a cheap php script service on my website giving everyone who signs up 8mb of space. I used about 15 - 16 gb a month. People used my site as a xanga picture/music server.
