Help.

My brand new Weber fell over on its side during a really bad storm here. I stood her back up, reseated everything inside. Everything looks okay, the grill cover suffered some scratches/cuts. Problem : Pre-fall it took about two clicks on the starter to fire up... post-fall, now it takes 25-30.

Anything I can do to troubleshoot this? Propane tank is full.

Gas line? Maybe the starter?

hmmmm. anything with moving parts has the most chance of being damaged. the starter for sure.

when you found the grill, was the gas line to the propane tank very taught? which would mean it was basically trying to be pulled off by the weight of the tank. could have damaged the connection maybe? i'd definitely check the gas line and connection to the tank though. like for sure for sure. that could kill.

Yeah, check the gas line just for safety's sake. However, those starters never last too long from my experience.

Must have been one hell of a storm to knock your BBQ over. Those things aren't light.

yeah heard the same. couple weber owners i know and my folks starter went out after a year and a bit. they looked it up, a fairly known issue. being blown over may have just expedited the process.

First I've heard of starter issues in the Weber. Mine is going into the fifth year with the original batteries on the starter and it still fires up on the first push.

Definitely check the lines. When it was tipped is it possible water got into the line somehow through the burners?

The electrode that releases a spark from the piezoelectric ignition most likely got knocked out of position. Adjust it and you're good to go.

well of course it doesn't happen to every unit or even the majority.

after it happened to my brother in law he researched it,, found it was a statistically significant amount.

still a great grill. just lights it now through the hole for a grill starter.

I feared this. It obviously blew over in the direction of the wind, which then proceeded to blow rain up its skirt, in a manner of speaking. Not a good situation.

Turn on gas to burners for few seconds with lid closed.
Open lid, STAND BACK and toss lighted match.

If ignited, let burn for a few seconds and check each control valve to burner.

If it did not light up, you have a gas line/valve problem.
If it lighted up, shut down and retry with the ignition mechanism.

This way you can identify where the problem exists.

I fixed it.

I had been attempting to start it with the burner set in the 'high' position. Apparently that was basically choking the starter, since its 100% propane and zero air. Turn burner temp to low, start grill, turn burner back up, profit.

Not sure what that had to do with it tipping over, but who cares, its back to top form.
