I am in the market for a webcam (with mic) just basic stuff not gonna be producing content or anything. Can anyone say whether these cheaper 'private label' (generic) webcams advertising 1080P FHD also support different resolution modes for capture using the inbuilt sensor/processor or do they capture only at one fixed resolution then offload that to the host PC to do?
I want the ability to capture (and send outbound) at 720P or even the most common SD resolution like 480 NTSC, if I wanted. And prefer not to offload recompositing or transcoding whatever it is called to the host CPU because it is lower end and not too potent.
