Webcam tweaking in WinXP?

As i have noticed with the built in webcam (i guess WIA?) capturing stuff, when i actually click "take picture" the quality is not as high as it is in the streaming shot. This is obviously due to compression. Is there any way to tweak the compression of the image quality through registry or anything? It'd be interesting to find out.
