Hello

To record lectures and conferences, as an alternative to a high-end camcorder that supports providing an external sound source, I'd like to connect a Windows laptop to a webcam and to the sound mixer in the room (probably through an XLR-to-minijack cable).

How can I choose a good webcam for that purpose? The only thing I can think of is that it must be able to stand on a tripod, but other than that, I'm clueless.

There are ten's of item at eg. NewEgg: Can you recommend a brand + model?

Thank you.

Webcams are designed for close up focus. You want one that does the job at infinity. As was said above. probably any will do - so it is a matter of compatibility and price. Personally, I would go to a local store with my laptop and try out a couple and go from there, targetting best value.
