webcam settings

I bought a cheap webcam a while ago for about ?10 and just to mess around with, and a problem I seem to be having with it is that just as I start previewing it or starting a video convo on MSN or whatever, it shows the picture nice and bright and perfectly for a split second, and then darkens it. Is there any way I can switch off this auto-darken or whatever it is? My computer calls it PC-30 #3 and there is a program I can use to change some filter settings but it doesn't seem to do anything for the brightness unless I turn the gamma way up but then it looks horrible and grainy.

Or does anyone know of a program I can get to control webcam settings?

Thanks for any advice/answers :)

The light in my room is fine, its not dark or anything. It's just that the camera or program or whatever is using some kind of auto-darkening.

this seems to be "pine cam Pc-30". If windows settings are insufficinet you need original driver with acontrol app. Look for this on driverguide or similar sites. Good Luck
