Webcam question

My boss wants to get a webcam for her house so she can watch the nanny and her newborn baby. Nothing covert, the nanny said it's okay.

She has a cable modem and router.

Other than a webcam (logitech, intel, or whatever), what software is needed to make the output available on the internet so she can watch it from work?

Post here or email me at monrocm@chevrontexaco.com

Thanks in advance,
Glendor...

She'll need to know her IP address and then just connect with whatever software program she wants to use - Netmeeting, etc.

For still frames it's real easy. Most webcams will already include the software to do this, including motion sensor activation updates. The software just saves the files to a webserver. If you have webserver space somewhere, it can be hosted anywhere. If not, you can easily install a small webserver on your pc, xitami would be my choice. If you're installing your own webserver you will also want to get a dynamic dns name (usually free, or very low cost) so you don't need to remember the ip, or have to care if the ip changes suddenly.

If you want live video streaming then you can skip the above and just install something like yahoo messenger. Let the camera run all the time and give the proper permissions to another user (the viewer) so they can fire up the program and view remotely.

I'd go with Logitech 4000. The image is excellent, and they have sw included for posting still image on the net.
