Web Pages don't display correctly...

For instance, my homepage (http://forums.anandtech.com/) all displays fine except the left margin has an "advertisement" that actually says advertisement in the dark blue stripe above a "Cannot find server or DNS Error Internet Explorer" message for the advertisement only. And the whole web page seems to be a bit wider now as the bar slide appears at the bottom for panning the page left and right. When I click on some links, not all, at techbargains specifically I get the same error but not all the links. I have checked Java and Active x settings and they have not changed as far as I can tell.

Any Ideas???

Disable Windows System Restore, delete all System Restore files, and do a thorough virus scan of your computer using the latest virus defintions. It's a possible symptom of the QHosts trojan. Do you engage in any "risky" behaviors such as using a file-sharing service, etc?

Also, visit Windows Update and get fully patched-up, and install ZoneAlarm if you don't have some sort of firewall already (ZoneAlarm is from www.zonelabs.com, the basic version is free and quite good too). Wouldn't hurt to slap an anti-spyware software on there either... Adaware 6.1 from here or Spybot S&D from here.

I always keep windows updated and I use AdAware every day because I do share. I am the king of updated virus definitions (last update was 10/02 @6:48 pm). I don't use a firewall because I only have dial-up (I know...still good to have) but it is a nuisance to tweak. I have XP's firewall enabled but I turned it off until I can troubleshoot this problem ( I know but it's better than nada). I did not see the Qhosts trojan protection in my downloaded list in McAfee so I am downloading the fix from their site and the MS03-040 patch from Microsoft from 10/01. This may be it but I don't know why AdAware did not see this either (pretty good proggy). Crossing fingers...

Still not loading some advertisements and links on all pages. I even went into regedit and none of the strings QHost installs were there. McAfee and Microsofts fixes were already installed on my system also so... I don't know what else to try.
