I need an alternative to squirrelmail. It's to hard to install. I've been trying for weeks and I can't get it to work. I know you don't really install squirrel mail but I need some help.

I only tested Squirrelmail using IMAP. It didn't play well with either of my IMAP servers.

Are you looking for a mail server or just a web-mail interface?

I had no problems with SquirrelMail when I tried it a while back, but this was with Debian so everything was pretty much setup for me.

Heh...

I'm a SquirrelMail fanboi!

Been using SM since wayback, and I'm still (ahem) nuts about it... :D

I was never a fan of SquirrelMail, I always preferred the look of Horde IMP better.

IMP is a much superior and robust product than Squirrel Mail, but it's a bitch to install when I tried three years ago.

I finally was able to install both Squirrelmail and roundcube. I should post the instructions or something. It took me almost a week to figure this out. I'm so happy that I finally got it working :)

I'm using Sendmail, Dovecot, and SquirrelMail for the web interface. However, I do like roundcube much better.

Here's what I was trying to do.

First, I had to join my Linux box to my domain. Then when users log-in to SquirrelMail (with their NT credentials) it will build a mail folder for them.

Yesterday, I got part of it working. When I log in it worked fine but I tried another account and it gave me an IMAP error. Then I tried logging in as the test user via ssh to the linux box then I logged in SM and it worked. So I had to checked the permissions on the folder.

Everything works now. I'm fairly new to Linux and it was a pain getting winbind, webmin, LAMP working. But now everything works.

My next server I have to get up and running is a proxy server using squid. Again, I'm fairly new so this will be another week or two long project. :)

Yea, 'aptitude install imp4' is so difficult. =)

Heh! And, I'm not a whore day fan... :)

I hear cPanel dropped them because of insurmountable security problems.

SM by default is kludgy looking, but it looks okay after it's skinned!

Here's Before & After if you're interested... ;)

All I use is IMAP - gave up on POP years ago...

Using IMAP on Gmail is problematic, but Google is figuring it out... sort of... kinda! :D

Real men install from source :p

Real men install from binaries and then go have sex with their GFs/Wives while the source guy is head-butting his monitor. :D

I've worked with guys like that. Most of them are single, miserable, and wear WAY too much polyester...so this dream you're having of "sex with GFs/Wives" isn't fooling anyone.
