I was planning to set up a web-hosting service for a bunch of friends/school folks. It is meant mainly to provide them some email and personal page/picture hosting facility.
I was thinking of setting up with the following.
1. About 2 to 3 machines with 60-80 GB each.
2. A Router and Switch
3. Either Frame-relay or full-blown T1 (cost and usage dependent)
4. Linux, Apache, maybe some web-hosting management software like Plesk, some Email software. Anti-virus etc.
5. Some daily backup hardware (Any suggestions?)
While I have a good knowledge of PCs (I build by own), basic networking etc, needless to say I haven't ventured to do something like this before.
I know there are a bunch of cheap solutions out there, but these folks wanna have something for their own, non-profit and relatively inexpensive.
I was wondering if anybody here had some experience in doing web-hosting and if anybody could give some tips, do's and don't on providing a simple and basic web-hosting service. I am sure some of you might have already done/doing this kinda stuff...
Thanks for any info.
