Right now for my personal site I have dixiesys, and when I did deal with the cs during setup it went great, but need one for a business, and price isn't that important. I really need awesome CS and reliability. 300 megs will be fine. and I shouldn't need more than a few gigs of transfer. CS is the major thing thoguh 24/7 and know what is going on. I remember good things were allways said about gary harris at dixiesys, and just wondering if their CS is still up to par where it was when he started. Also would need to have two seperate domains/sites.
Thanks

Wow 3 years free...
is this legit ?

#1: Talk to Rossman for advice.
#2: I have had experience with addr.com hosting and jaguarpc.com hosting, each handled my website's load very nicely with about 10k people a day and still not using their dedicated servers. One of the two gives daily backups, I don't remember which, but that was kind of nice.

go to http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=45 and post what you posted in your intial post. THat's what it's there for. THen businesses will give you quotes and you can pick from what you want.

Great advice, just be weary that if they sound like super offers (5/70GB for $20) just avoid them.

My first recommendation of course is to check out AddAction.net which offers first 6 months for $9.95, $6.95/mo after that gets you 500MB/10GB, cPanel bluetrix with auto install scripts and 5 addon domains. So you can host up to 6 domains with your one account, they will all have their own separate domain (no weird subdomains, ad banners, etc.)
GottaDeal.com, PlanetHzl.com, conjur.com, yagt.org and about 100 other AT'ers sites are currently hosted with AddAction.

If you want REALLY awesome and price is no object there is a little known web host called EnhancedHost.com and they are awesome.

Do your own research and check the WHT forums, remember you get what you pay for.

I'm so glad this thread came up. 😀 Good info!

I am looking to move my website and I have a friend with a commercial website who is getting jacked for bandwidth charges and is looking for a new host as well. I never realized how hard it is to find a good and cheap website that won't place restrictions on you until I started a website with real traffic.

just signed up with addaction, and curious how to set it up for two seperate domains. . . .

LOL, I got an account with addaction a few days ago and it's already up and running. (cpanel and space were up within 24 hours, took 2 days for my pointers to redirect) They have a very nice system over there, so far so good.

I also have a 1on1 account, that control panel/interface is the worst thing I have ever seen, but it's free and it works.

well figured out how to add the domain. Seems like it'll be a subdomain though. Also ftp'd my site over, and for some reason when I use the ip address(haven't point NS's there yet). I get the Placeholder page. I put my site in the public.html directory. any reason why it shouldn't work there. Not much of a web expert, so going to try their support see if they have a min to help me out. unless someone here has an answer for me😀

If this is your MAIN domain it should work just fine, ask them what the temporary URL is before propogation. Their tech support so far for me has been good.

If you want to add more than one domain it's a little tricky. It's very important that you FIRST update the DNS name servers (with your domain registrar e.g. GoDaddy.com) and wait for propogation to occur. THEN login to your main cPanel click domain manager click addon domains then you can host up to 5 other domains but first propogation must occur otherwise it's gets all weird and out of whack.

While on the topic of web sites can anyone recommend a good, easy to use, small CMS (like PostNuke or PHPNuke)?

Tiki is supposed to be good but I never looked into how to install it. Didn't seem as simple as I'd hoped.

Thanks, I want something small and simple but also secure with a good community behind it.

I keep thinking of mambo and xoops? I dunno if those are blog or cms type scripts.
