lets say i sign up for hosting from some provider, and they give me an control panel type deal to maintain my site. you know, just simple things like assign emails, check site status.. etc..

my question is.. what if you don't like the particular control panel that they use. can you use your own? how hard would it be to change it?

basically i'm looking for something that gives me REALLY REALLY detailed logs and stats of my site. Detailed as in stats on everything, page hits, hits per time/day/hour/etc.. and a detailed tracking of where visitors came from.. etc..

Is it possible to run my own server stats thing? anyone know anything about this stuff?

I'm sure there's some plugin that gives you more detailed stats. I mean, I'm a total n00b when it comes to anything web related but I was still able to install squirrelmail on my PLESK dixiesys account without shell access.
Can't tell you what to look for but I'm sure it's out there.

Sounds like DS is looking for a different looking control panel, not a different looking webmail program, amnesiac 2.0. You can't change the PLESK control panel from DixieSys. The only thing you CAN change is the look of webmail.

Everything else is locked in place.

Have you tried actually asking your provider, dieselstation???

To answer your question, no, you can't change the control panel by yourself. It's deeply fixed into the OS itself and cannot be removed or changed.

However, most of what you're trying to accomplish can be easily done with php programs working with your control panel configuration.

bwahahahahh...
BTW, Nik, I know you can't change your control panel.. but I was under the impression that there were programs that you could load that provided better stats than what comes with the control panel. Am I incorrect?

Dieselstation, what provider do you have btw?

Nope. If you're using PLESK, you have to use whatever PLESK provides.
