Web Front-End Proxy

At work, they make us use their proxy server, which doesn't let us log into a lot of normal web sites. (They even block this forum's front page, unless you have a link directly to one of the forum topics.)

What I'm hoping exists is something I can setup on my personal web space that would act as a proxy of sorts. In other words, I plug in a web address, which asks me where I would like to go, then it redirects the page to me, kind of like how Google cache is used to bypass some proxies.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. I tried looking this up, but I must not know the right name for it, as all the proxy stuff I got back was the normal proxy server stuff.

You are using your employer's servers. They get to make the rules. Please do not post on our forums looking for ways to circumvent thier restrictions.

This forum is largely contributed to by network admins that set up and run proxies for a living.

Asking for ways to bypass them are greatly frowned upon.

Your employer probably put those restrictions in place for a reason. Like maybe a company policy that would get you fired if you try to get around it? ;)

If you really need to get to web sites that are currently blocked by the proxy, ask the network admin (or your boss) for permission to do it. We won't tell you how to violate your company policy here...

True, but folks who make money selling PCs probably frown upon the overclocking forum, as it avoids customers buying upgrades or the sale of more expensive hardware (the new 3200+ instead of the more expensive 4000+).

I think I found what I needed. It is called a web-based anonymous proxy server. I was just using the wrong search type. There are fee based and free services, but what I was looking for was something I could setup on my machine at home to connect through. Still looking for something like that.

Fair enough. The main page I want to get to is just signin.ebay.com, since I like to check my auctions from work during lunch or other downtime, and they started blocking it, which is really annoying. (They didnt block any other ebay sites).

I kind of work for a big company where IT is this anonymos mass that exists to annoy you and puts your requests into a queue that get addressed 8 years later.

While they're scarfing down a quick sandwich at their desks trying to fufill YASR (Yet Another Stupid Request), you're trying to sign into ebay to make sure that crap you bought is selling... Yeah, those assholes.
