I've got this guy that keeps bugging me to develop a website for a business he is starting. I've developed websites for fun (fantasy football, friends weddings, etc) but nothing professional. What is a reasonable rate to start with when negotiating prices for the work?

I don't want to be ripped off and don't want to rip him off in return. We haven't really discussed the scope of the project but what I have taken from him so far is that it is a medium sized project that won't require alot of graphic work and a little DB programming.

Thanks,
Queasy

interesting. well. you might want to break it down all the way. say you work on it about 4-5 hours a day. for either a couple days or weeks. so how much would you charge? 20-25 bucks an hour? more? if you feel this is a medium size project, then you might want to go with a medium size wage. To me, around 40-60 bucks is top elite, and 20-30 would be reasonable. setup a break down of these numbers and then add it all up with the time you are suppose to finish this, and you'll get your total.

I too question this at times, but it really depends on how good you can do it

Dude.,...whenever there are $$ involved...make sure u have him sign a contract...or it'll be a never ending proect!

As far how much u shouild charge...well that all depends on the complexity of the proect and your experience. As for our company, we charge $120/hour w/a 2 hour minimum.
