I'm new to web site design and I was wondering if anyone could recomend a good program. I know very little html code, so I was thinking Dreamwearver MX was my best bet. Any objections?

Definitly Dreamweaver. I wouldn't use it for PHP though, tried it and didn't like it.

Uhhhh, no. You obviously arent proficient in the ways of the web if you think Frontpage is good, or even mediorcre. It's generates the worst code out of any WYSIWYG editor. If you've gotta use a program for your code, use Dreamweaver MX. If not, use a nice text editor like UltraEdit-32.

PHP is a server side scripting language that's fantastic, free, and easy to learn. http://www.php.net

I use fpage2k3 all the time. I dont actually let it generate the code, I write all of it, mostly php, but I use it for front page extensions :). Plus it was $5 ;)

Then you're using it much differently than 95% of the people that use frontpage ;)

I have not used Dreamweaver MX but I used FrontPage in the past and it is easy to use. Dreamweaver MX is like Photoshop in my opnion.

You need webhosting to get it on the net. There are free services or you can purchase some and have your own domain name.

I used dreamweaver extensively for about 7 years. Then I switched to using CSS for layout and now I don't see much use for dreamweaver anymore and instead use a normal text editor with tag highlighting.

What would you recommend for PHP? Is there an editor that works well with PHP? Don't tell me its Frontpage:shocked:

My only exposure to Dreamweaver was back in version 2. I was learning actual code at the time, and didn't stick with Dreamweaver, but it beat out everything else of the time. The interface and execution were perfect. The newest Frontpage isn't half as good as that old Dreamweaver version was. Now I just use HTML-Kit :), though.

If you need or want a GUI mixed in with text editing, Dreamweaver.

MX2004 works well with php (though it doesn't follow includes/requires).

First and foremost I see you have a link to Cael in your sig! I'm from near Iowa State I see you're from his home state. I hope he does well!

Secondly, could you explain to me what it means if MX2004 "doesn't follow includes/requires"? Is this a bug or just a lack of features in MX 2004?

Thanks.
