greetings.
ok..first did a search and came up with a few ideas.
what i want to do is set up web cam and use it as a "nanny cam"
i want to be able to view live images from a remote computer-ie from work
got a Microsoft VX6000 USB cam. got the Webcam 2000 software.
set everything up and it seems to work. i can view live pix on screen using both
the microsoft program and the webcam2000.
I test the webcam 2000 using the http://myIP:8080 and it works from both home computers.
both computers are networked to a DLink DI-604 ..the cam is on a Dell Dim8400 p4 3.0
2g ram. Geforce 6800gts.. i run Shaw Secure security suite which is the Fsecure package i believe.
I followed instructions on the Dlink site to open ports on the router for the cam
i enabled ports 8000-8999 per directions
I set up permissions in the Shaw secure suite to allow the cam.
all appears that it should be working.
this is where i need help and am not too up to speed on how to set this up. I had a friend try to log in to the cam and he gets errors. i tried from work a bit ago and get same.
the error is The server at xxx.xxx.x.xxx is taking too long to respond.
do i need to actually have a web page set up? or can i directly link to this cam?
when i go into ipconfig i use the IP that is listed there. if i understand things..that IP is an internal one given by the router? this is where i am confused so if anyone else has set up something similar i could really use some help here
one thing i noticed..in the router ..if u want get into the set up and change things remotely it uses the same port 8080 but it is checkmarked disabled. Does this have anything to do with it or is it not related?
