Web Browser doesnt work, but other stuff connects...

ok, i've got a riddle for ya.

im working on this computer that can connect to the internet via msn and skype, it downloads windows updates, and it updates adaware too... but when i try to go to a website, it does not connect. I've tried IE6, IE7 (upgraded, i figured it would help if it reinstalled), and firefox.

the comp is plugged in to a land line, rj45, but not to the default LAN1 off the mobo. instead it's off a pci modem card LAN2.

i dont know what i did....

i ran adaware and removed 30 some odd files....

i uninstalled the eTrust firewall/antivirus stuff....

and when i rebooted it works...

any ideas why it did this?
