web-based messenger programs safe?

HiME

Senior member
Web based messenger programs like ebuddy... are they considered to be safe and should I trust them?

I'd like some input on this =)

My definition of "safe" is that all the conversations and data will not be exposed/ sold to third parties for any other purposes. Ads are fine, but my personal identity remains private.

I've only ever used Meebo and I've never had anything issues or anything that would make me worry. Anyways, transmitting sensitive data of any IM service is risky as the free ones, like AIM, yahoo and MSN are not encrypted to begin with.

PS Don't worry, no one will find out about your love of horses and midgets.
