A friend of mine is thinking of starting a web based business. If anyone is already doing this, what software or hardware do you need for taking online payments; orders etc in a secure enviroment.

thanks

If the business is some kind of franchise or kit, the odds of making much money are very low.

I'm interested as well. A friend has been living fulltime with his web business for a few years now, and is retiring soon. He's giving me his EBAY account and store and his website all selling the same things (smoking pipes). Most of the same rules for success in a b&r store apply. If you're actually selling a physical product you need to buy low, probably in bulk, and use good prices and customer service to build a good reputation for repeat business. It's tough if you're just going with a drop shipper or an affiliate program, as you're one of many sites doing the exact same thing.

This business has nothing to do with Ebay or any Franchise. I need to find info from people who use good e-commerce software and what the options are.

thanks for the reply.

www.WebHostingTalk.com forums should have lots of good posts on this. Try a search there.

If you want better responses here, you might edit the thread title to something like "What e-commerce software do you use?" and maybe add some details on the kind of business.

You need different software to add a shopping cart for a 3-tiem store than for managing an auto parts store with thousands of inventory items.
