Hey All,

Been doing some searching but have not been able to find anything really.

I'm trying to see if there are any good products that do the following:

Need a way to provide a web interface to allow users to purchase documents and have it electronically delivered to them. The documents are stored in a database. They would need to be searchable and then maybe add it to a cart, and either provide a direct link to the doc or emailed after purchase.

Does anyone know off hand of any good web applications, either something you'd purchase with support from a company or even something that can be installed/managed by an internal systems admin, that does this?

I know it is done but wondering if there's anything considered to be a good product.

Thanks!

A quick search doesn't turn up anything pre-packaged. Like you I've seen it done plenty of times. There are services that sell academic articles in PDF form, for example, but I assume they all rolled their own. Shouldn't be too hard to integrate a shopping cart front-end onto an existing content management system like Drupal.

Do the docs needs to be 'watermarked' on a per-user basis, or does the software just provide a generic link that can only be reached after purchase? Does the link tot he doc require the user to be logged into their account to get the doc?

Perhaps try changing the focus of your search from "Shopping Cart" to "Subscription Service." While the concepts in the software are similar, pre-packaged software I'm familiar with often seems to support either one or the other well, but not both. Customers could be "subscribed" to individual documents which could be set up to give permanent or temporary access.
