I'm running Nougat. v7, on MotoX Pure,
so maybe I think it doesn't have all the vendor ROM fluff pre-installed, right?

How do I get a basic weather widget?
I remember this being part of the base OS.
I do not want to install a 3rd party ad/app.

You should have a simple "Weather" app pre-installed on your phone, it's a yellow sun.
Open the app, click the 3 bars thing on the top left
Click "Add to home screen".

BTW I saw your post here and I was tempted to answer on your behalf, ZOMG Moto X Pure Edition represent!

P.S. I recently joined the Moto family with a Z2 Force, I couldn't resist the deal I got.

I don't see any Weather app on my phone.
Where can I find it? Please be very specific.

Nope, I don't have anything related to Weather in my list of stock Widgets.
Can you be more specific on what you see, and where?

Touch and hold the Home screen and it should show you a list Wallpapers, Widgets and Settings. Touch Widgets. Near the bottom of the list it should have " Time and Weather " listed.

I have a Moto G4 running Pure Android 7.

I do not have a "Time and Weather" option under Widgets.
I checked a friend's phone, and they do.
So, I'm looking in the right place, it's just missing from my phone.

I don't want to install a weather app that will hijack my phone and constantly serve up ads.
Is my only option to pay for an ad free Weather widget?
How the hell does everyone else have a free one? WTF.

That 1x1 widget is almost PERFECT. Thanks!
It gives forecast of high/low, but not current.

HD Widgets are really cool and you can choose Weather Underground or Accuweather as your source.

1Weather has some good widgets.

Weather Timeline as well.

Plenty of others to choose from but in general a nice ad free experience will cost you a couple bucks.
