Christ, why is it any time a medication actually WORKS some shithead has to find a way to get high off it so its taken off the shelves?

For years I was never able to get any relief from colds until I found pseudoephedrine. It was great, my sinuses thanked me repeatedly for it and it had the nice little side effect of numbing my sore throat a bit and giving me a little boost of energy.

Today my wife picks up some bastardized version of dayquil which advertises now pseudoephedrine free! Like its a good thing. I might was well be taking bright orange tylenol because the phenylphrine HCI that has replaced my beloved pseudoephedrine doesnt do shit.

Now I understand morons abuse it, but put it behind the counter with the rest of the stuff, sure I dont like filling out 37 forms with 42 seperate government ids to get it, but if its between that and not getting anything, I'll go with the hassle. Just dont remove it and try to act like its some damn big improvement.

I was surprised - a grocery store near me had an endcap display of cold medicines, and among it was pseudophedrine.

Other things that have amused me while working retail:
You can buy a hatchet without needing to show ID, but for certain sunglasses, the register will ask for an ID.
And spray paint needs an ID, because all young adults over 18 are perfectly responsible.

Maybe they're trying to offer alternatives that don't have the same side effects? I can't imagine that the drug companies would phase out a product line because a minority of people abuse it.

Plastic cement has been around for a long time, and I don't see it going away any time soon. ;)

They are trying to phase it out because it has to be sold behind the counter and they think that is hurting their sales.

F that, pseudoephedrine is the ONLY thing that has worked for me and if I cant get it, I wont buy anything.

yeah, that phenylphrine is completely useless, I think a study came out not too long ago saying its ineffective.

Most of the old versions are still around, now they are called "D" versions. they are behind the counter.

Really? That's kind of sad. I wonder what other products we can ruin. Let's start pouring laundry detergent on highways. It'll make them slick, and cause accidents. Soon the laundry detergent aisle will have fifteen guards posted by Homeland Security, and then you'll have to file a form and wait five weeks to get enough for one load of wash. If you do more than three loads a week, you'll be put on their watch list - worse still, you could be hung out to dry.

Hence my apology. ;)

Besides, a rimshot is better than a rimjob, right? Call me anal, but that's just something with which I don't want to associate.

IIRC, the FDA has required them to remove psuedoephedrine from children's cold medications, but the issue with "regular cold medicines" is the production of methedrine...aka crank. They make it from psuedoephedrine...and when I take sudafed, I know why...the shit winds me up "like an 8 day clock," my blood pressure goes through the roof, and my heart "starts thumping like a big brass band."

Pseudoephedrine should still be available behind the counter except in Oregon, which is requiring a prescription (again) for any pseudoephedrine formulations. (I say again, because when I was a kid, Sudafed was a prescription medication, and I don't remember any OTC meds containing pseudoephedrine, but you could buy many cough syrups that contained codeine OTC.)

I know I can still get it, my problem is the amount of products containing it are dwindling because of a bunch of no brain meth heads, then the manuf try to make me think its a good thing by putting labels on the box saying "NOW PSEUDOEPHEDRINE FREE!!"

Oh thank jebus, I was hoping they would remove the ingredient that made it work

I dabbled with meth a touch but those days are long gone. I like weed a lot better now.

Take a joke.

Umm, come to Spokane County, they are getting ready to outlaw phosphates in dishwashing detergent. No more Cascade Complete.

They DO have it behind the counter. Or are you saying only have it back there and not sell the one with phenylephrine at all? If so, I agree.

Aleve Cold & Sinus is incredible. They can scan my drivers license any time they want if it'll fix my cold. What I don't get is why they even bother to do it if I'm just buying a box. I mean, yeah, I suppose some determined meth chef could drive around town and buy one box at each drug store, but that'd take hours and he wouldnt end up with much. It's basically a knee-jerk reaction that doesn't solve anything.

Ya, they should just limit sales to 1 per customer. From what I've heard though, the mass purchase of OTC drugs for Meth Production isn't even that much an issue anymore. Meth Labs have better sources than OTC drugs.

I still use Psedoephedrine.
Nothing works better, although I do have to watch my blood-pressure when I use it (and try not to use it too much).

That other crap that they sell now have studies proving it doesn't work and probably only increases your blood pressure instead of curing your symptoms.

Is meth abuse bad there. I realize it's bad everywhere but is it even worse there or something?

I don't know if meth abuse is bad here, when I did meth I never abused it :D. My response above was about the laundry detergent, WA state is starting to outlaw dishwasher detergent.

I thought they'd already done away with phosphates in a lot of dishwashing detergents. Guess I was wrong.
