I tried to power up my newly built rig this morning. Specs are:
1. Zaman 600 watt psu;
2. Radeon HD 4870 x2
3. Q9650
4. 4 gigs OCZ 12800.
5. Ide dvd/cdrom
6. 300 gig sata Velociraptor.
7. Asus P5e3 motherboard.
8. Thermaltake Xaser case.
When turning it on at first, the green motherboard light came on but no cpu or video out. When I pressed the system power button on the front of the case, I got a brief flash of light from the case fan LED and that was it. I have no case speaker, btw. Thinking I might be underpowered, I pulled out one 12 volt rail from the power supply and, voila', it powered up. I haven't accessed the bios yet as I didn't have a keyboard connected, but the monitor is showing the loading screen. I assume memory, cpu, video card are working.
So, I'm thinking I need to get at least 800 watts, maybe a 1000 watt psu. Or, should I try re-arranging the power cables?
Does anyone have any suggestions about something I might be doing wrong here besides the PSU wattage? What about converting the 4 pin Molex fan connector to 3 pin motherboard connector for the rear case fan that I unplugged? But, if I have to go to these lengths to get the fans to work, how is the video card going to work under load?
Thanks in advance to jonny. I need to send you a good looking blond for a weekend, jonny.
