The point is, now people who are not even *suspected* of being terrorists can have their information forcefully gathered w/o a subpoena

Right now there is an american citizen deprived of his rights, not charged with a crime, arrested on american soil and who can be held forever without being able to face his accusers. Everything we take for granted removed. We are all diminished when you can be taken away. Gone.

We feared the USSR and derided many other countries for this. We no longer have that right. Bin Laden wins, not because anyone dies but because we embrace the concept of a police state to gain imaginary security.

People who would lock up others in this matter do not deserve trust, but rather scorn.

Parameters? WTF do parameters have to do with the reality of what *is* happening?
To say it will never happen and to obscure that it *is* happening is to deny the truth.

Let the apologist for Bush and the denier of reality post another non-sequitur.

THAT is the fundamental problem with Bush. People criticize Bush for the sake of criticizing, and remove all shreds of credibility from themselves. It's not about his intellectual capacity, and more about his focus. It's just that he does not have the personal freedoms that define the greatest nation to ever inhabit the earth in mind. I'll admit the war in Iraq and Afghanistan were not his best moments, but letting things through such as the Partiot Act is devasting to the hopefully fruitfull future of the ENTIRE WORLD.

No one wants a 1984, and appearantly, Bush hasn't read the book.

On another note, I'm glad I've finally found something I completely agree with the ACLU on. I was really getting tired of hating them. Wow... that sounds suspiciously like something Hitler would have said...
