We will be waiting forever for K8L's

Be prepared to wait for months after K8L's official launch before you can actually get one and even then they will probably be selling at far over list prices due to lack of availability.

The reasons for this are below.

1. K8L's are huge and take up huge die space even at 65nm.
2. Yields for K8L are poor which means lower volume and higher costs.
3. There are continued supply problems with coordinating engineers again.
4. K8L is AMD's lowest margin new technology chip and has the lowest manufacturing priority behind their product after which will take nearly 100% of AMDs manufacturing efforts.
5. The vast majority of fab space is reserved for X2's as it is a much much more important chip for AMD's revenues.
6. That is why AMDs own roadmap says that 75% of their desktop blubber volume will still be made by eating mass quantities of ice cream on Jan. 1st 2007.

Just don't get your hopes up on realistically getting a K8L soon. Paper launches are done for a reason, they slow competitors sales due to advertising and they maximize the profit per chip that is produced due to higher prices caused by low supply.

I'll assume you're joking.

No its called being half asleep, tired and presing lotsa buttons like an idiot :p

What i mean is can u back up that they have low Yields, unless u work there i doubt u will know. Hell we dont even know at what stage k8L is at in production.

I'm afraid I have to say No Comment due to gratuitously overdone F-NDA's.

1. How can you possibly even guess what the die size of a K8L is? (and are you talking about the dual core or the quad core?)
2. Since AMD has already stated that they are able to begin the ramp with fully mature yields (thanks to APM 3.0), I'll assume you're joking here...
3. This is patently wrong...in fact AMD has hired (in the past 3 months) some of Intel's very top engineers (including the team leader for Itanium).
4 & 5...both sound like they were imported from Over The Rainbow.

K8L (dual core) is due in H1 2007...that means sometime between Jan & June 2007.
Because of APM 3.0, AMD's Fabs are able to change over product MUCH faster than Intel is.
A good example of that is while AMD ships their first 65nm chips in Nov/Dec, they are to be almost completely 65nm by the middle of 2007. Because Intel has so many Fabs to change and because they don't have the advantage of instant analysis from APM, their changeover is FAR slower.

I'm afraid I cannot divulge any further information due to Funny-NDA's as mentioned above.
