We still can't get Windows 7 Starter edition huh?

Trying to rejuvenate an older laptop. Win7 with that ReadyBoost feature would help it quite a bit. Anyway to get a LEGAL copy of that?

Don't think so...looks like they only made Starter available to OEMs for new netbooks. Home Premium is the lowest buyable version available.

Just use regular Win7. Starter is for shaving price at the expense of features, not boosting performance.

Hmm.... The shaved parts do not run processes in the background.
Less processes running and lower Video needs, and the ATOM Netbooks are a little more agile.

I'd be willing to bet the additional processes with a real version of Win7 are minimal, and use minimal resources. Assuming you wanted to get rid of that small overhead, they could be disabled quicker than it would take download a Win7 Starter torrent.

Yeah, I'd get Windows 7 Home Premium, Retail Upgrade. If you want to duplicate Starter edition, disable Aero. That way you can choose the features you use or turn off and you can later move the OS to another PC or sell it. You couldn't "legally" move or sell Starter edition.
