I think it would be a better idea to speak truthfully about the deceased. Lay it all out on the line, the good, the bad, the happy, the sad. We need a "Speaker for the Dead" as Orson Scott Card wrote... .
If you want to see a fantastic realization of the exact opposite, check out The Sopranos Season 3, Episode 2 "Proshai, Livushka" for one of the funniest remembrances of a person ever.
Of course, you'll have to make it through the first 2 seasons to really appreciate it, but honestly, I couldn't stop laughing, and just thinking about it is making me chuckle a bit.
