That is very interesting. I have often thought that I had some level of echolocation. (When I close my eyes, I can still tell when something is near me/that I am close to something, like a wall). This could be part of that explanation as it seems the ears somehow help with light processing as well.

"see" sound? I'm always a skeptic when I'm reading articles like this because I feel like the headline always have to say something completely misleading to gather attention. What if the sound helps narrow what we focus on allowing us to see things better?

Well, we do "smell" taste. With the amazing things our brains can do, I'm not surprised.
