We received our free Seagate 400Gb at work today

By the looks of things, I think they've gone to four platters (100Gb each), as the indents in the underside of the platter area of the drive housing are barely recessed compared to a 200Gb model.

should be 3 133 platters, for a 7200.8

the 7200.7s were limited to 2 platters for a maximum of 200 GBs

 to you...soooo...since its an evaluation unit...eventually you should be done "evaluating" it, right?

bet you know where this is going 😉

Are they on to 133Gb platters now then?
And yes, it's a 7200.8, not that you could get a 400Gb 7200.7, that is.

We use Seagate drives for everything IDE as they've been the coolest running, quietest and most reliable drives in the last year or so.

However, we had so much trouble with the 20Gb 5400rpm "white-top with four bumps" drives- you have no idea. I've changed so many since I've started there.

It's going to live in a tucked-away machine for a few years, apparently 😉

Otherwise it'd be finding it's way into my own machine.
