If possible, I would rather fix something than throw it away and buy a replacement. I made a mistake a purchased a Cyberdrive 166D DVD Reader when my CD-Rom expired.
Now the Cyber drive will not recognize the presence of a DVD disk about 90% of the time.
I have "cleaned" the lazer of the reader with a Maxell DVD cleaning disk, and try to keep all my disks clean. Still, the Cyberdrive will not recognize when a disk has been placed in the tray. I use XP-SP2. I have turned OFF autoplay and checked the registry to confirm auto play is off. I can replace the Cyberdrive for $25 plus shipping, but it bugs me that the thing does not work. All toll, I bet it has less than 100 hours on it total since it was installed. Any suggestions.

thank you.

1st suggestion is to post in the appropriate forum--General Hardware or Technical Support would probably work best.

2nd suggestion would be to avoid that brand when you buy your replacement.
