It seems like it's very hard to find a stock one with low miles at a reasonable price in my area.

I think an S13 hatchback w/ kouki rear taillights and a s15 front end conversion looks awesome

I like the S14a. I love the Kouki front end. I was looking to get one with low miles and in good condition, but that didn't happen. Maybe I'll try again in a few years, when I have the means to do so.

I like the S13 more than the S14, but I'm also not willing to buy and use a vehicle that old as my daily driver, especially since I put 3-400 miles/week on my car (and I don't have the time, $$ or skill to fix it up). I'd keep the stock S13 front though, I like the popups. The kouki tails are sweet though.

IIRC, Alkemyst has a S14.

driftkat.com is my site too....

:)

http://driftkat.com/98SEmine.php

I had no idea of drifting when I bought it...it was a car purchase planned out since around 1999 that started with the 1989 944 Turbo (or 1988 Turbo S) and then fell to including the 87 Turbo as well....I looked at a ton and even the 20k mile ones at realistic prices to me ($20k and lower), had so much interior work I couldn't finish the restoration for less than another $5k possibly. I was seeking balanced handling and uniqueness at a price that would not exceed $25k when I finished. I got lucky on my purchase price and was ahead $5k right at the start :)

The only lack I find in my 240SX is the fact that the trunk is broken up by the vertical fuel tank. The car is well balanced and unlike the supra, rx7, rx8, mustang, camaro, vette, etc I don't see them everyday in S. Florida. I see more exotics than my car. With the kouki front end many think it's a new car...

The S13 was the first I fell in love with back in 1989, my friend had a champagne one new in high school, if the interior were a little more modern I may have chosen it first...however, I personally like the looks of my 98SE better than even the larger GTR...although it's AWD makes that beast pretty unbeatable.

It's all in how much money you want to throw at something or modern perferance....

However, my first car was a 1966 Mustang GT loaded with about 80k original miles on it....we did a full restoration anyway, but the body had no rust through and was mechanically well maintained. In High School even in stock shape it faired better than perhaps 75% of the cars on the lot...teachers included.

Either way, you're still buying an older car. I believe the last year they came out with them in the US was 97? 98? Something like that. I really like the 97 angry eyes version of the s14 over the 'happy eyes' version. Of course the S15 headlight conversion is nice too ... but that's like ... 3k+ to convert I believe? (paint job, cost of the headlights ... etc)

I like the S13 chassis a lot. I don't think it's worth the money to get an S14... The S13 240sx coupe with the S13 front-end looks great. I also really like the "Sil80" bodystyle which is the hatch version with the S13 Silvia front-end.

98 was the last year of the 240SX in the US...only 2k of them built in 97 and again in 98....making only 5000 total....of which many many were base model automatics.

happy eyes is optimistic...I call them down's syndrome eyes ;) It's not a bad look if you didn't know different...just typical of that era of cars...the angry eyes was a unique look in automobilies (the strawberries too (s15)) I perfer the kouki though seeing once in college and not knowing WTF car it was at the time.

between my dad's boats, trucks and my car is why it's rare to see me lately here. I have been off work the last week though (until tuesday) so post counts can rise again

Yep. I had a hell of a time looking for a manual of the 97's for my ex bf ... my last resort was going to be having one shipped from the east coast (seemed like there were a lot more there than here) but that would have cost me a lot ... so instead I found an s14 for him here in SoCal (had to drive an hour and a half away for it). But it turns out the guy that had the car, previously had it shipped over here haha. (There were many signs of rust underneath the car.)

Personally I just don't like how long it looks :p (the s14)

i had a friend who loved the 240sx. at one point, he owned 3 of them. i've always thought him a bit crazy to have 3 of the same car, even if they were different years. but i guess there are people who really love the car. he's sold all of them, he had no problem selling them.

Yeah the longness helps with balance...your miata is the counterpoint....short front, short rear....no rear seats....now I know my rear seats can't even seat a 5' asian woman, I have to drive my wife's Saturn sedan when we go out, although I will say they do like to sit in my car because it smells like Japan (I can't relate).

You want to see a long car Mercedes AMG supercar is like two frontends back to back.

Not too long to me, but being only 5' I can understand that dilema.

yes I was dropped on my head as a kid, only it was a child proof high chair and I did the swan dive onto terrazzo myself. the sound was melon-like according to my mother.

My friend had one. Then he sold that one and bought another one that's manual. He plans to swap the motor. ;)

Is it important to get the SE over base model? How much does the suspension and LSD help in handling?

Alkemyst, that car looks awesome :)
That's what I want. Actually Ideally I want an SE with every option except the sunroof.
There is a guy selling a base 5 speed 96 nearby, but he wants 1500 over KBB private party.

That's my whole problem.
I actually found some 97 240's in my area a little while ago... want one so bad.

well it does cost several GRAND for the conversion ... I still think the conversion itself looks nice :p
