Was at Walmart today, noticed at the checkout, where they usually put all the impulse buy stuff, there was a Virtual Reality Headset for $18. Yeah, VR has basically been reduced to being on the same level as cigarette lighters and batteries and is not a big deal. By 2020, you'll probably be able to buy photon guns and we'll be talking about how we need better energy gun control and that the 2nd amendment did not intend for people to have those.

(I imagine this "VR headset" was just to put your phone in it, but it made me ponder on how technology is so taken for granted now)

Being a Canucker, you don't have a 2nd amendment to fight over...so there's that.

I remember looking at Virtual Boy in a Toys R Us as a kid and even with the crappy red and black graphics wanting one. I was looking forward to all the tech of the future like electric cars, solar panels, virtual reality, AI, robot assistants, etc, mostly things we have in some form now finally being brought down in price and within the reach of consumers, though really the imagining and development of those technologies started decades ago.

No one is taking my photon guns away. I'd like to see them try. :colbert:

Most of those gimmick "VR" headsets aren't VR. Some of them are little more than receptacles for you to insert your phone into. Oculus Rift it ain't.
