We have so many intelligent people here, so much potential, but little organization.

I always reflect on AT and how much raw potential there is to be successful and do good things if only there was more organization, follow-through, and less negativity.

App coding can change the world. Web coding can change the world. Technical expertise can change the world.

We've got all of that, and more, here.

So many startup ideas, so many ideas with already proven business models, so many ways to help people and the world around us. All that's needed is organization and the brainpower.

Guh, frustrates me a bit.

My sentiments exactly. However, ATFs are just a tiny bit more rewarding than frustrating, which keep me coming back here. :)

Capital is the biggest thing needed that we just dont have. And frankly finding capital via internet is not simple, the internet does not breed trust.

I agree with OP, if the people on here banded together ATOT could produce a racist powerhouse that might even be able to rival Stormfront.

So much wasted racist potential down the drain.

Finding the capital to *pay people* is what is in short supply. Not many people are willing to work, like me, for free, in the hopes of a payoff.

And I understand that. Coders always get the "I'll pay you with stock options once this business goes big!" thing and it sucks. As a photographer we always get the "Shoot for us for free and you can build up your portfolio" crap.

EDIT - but trust has to start from somewhere, right? It takes at least one person to open up and accept the possibility of getting hurt to begin a relationship of trust, at least amungst relative strangers.

This is a web forum. We're here to talk, not do ffs.

That's you speaking for yourself.

People are here to talk, because that's what they think is only available to them.

I guarantee you - if this forum was known as and had the culture of a place where people could get connected, organized, and make shit happen, it wouldn't just be about talking.

I do work at work.

I come here when I'm not working.

I don't want to split my time between a real job and an app start-up, especially not one made with a bunch of strangers on ATOT.

I'm down. What are you bringing to the table?

What most people have are skills, not ideas.

I'll help, but I'm not good at the nerd stuff like coding and stuff. What I excel at is telling people what to do and being loud while doing it. For that reason, I offer myself up for a potential executive position in your new project.

So basically we're 4chan.

What are you going to do to change it?

I think the spread is bigger on 4chan. Ridiculous genius (or just some savants) and retarded assclowns mixed together. Yeah, it's everywhere...but 4chan just pushes the boundaries in all directions, with 'retardation' being a favorite area of exploration.

If you want to change the world for the better, you change it without expecting pay. There's enough money making schemes that generally boil down to "We'll take your identity in exchange for some crappy code, and a couple cents of disk space". The web doesn't need anymore of that. Freedombox, Diaspora, Tor, i2p, and MediaGoblin all could use help, and can really change the web for the better. That's where the work should go.

P.S. I can be your 'electromechanical device troubleshooting consultant' (...maintenance man) if you want. Also can I be in charge of firing people? You can pick, I just wanna fire.

But not everyone's like you. There are still brilliant people here who are without a job. We have that networking support thread stickied.

Why can't this forum not only be a place where people go to chat and share, but also to find opportunity and to join causes?

I'm down. What are you bringing to the table?

What most people have are skills, not ideas.

Ah, actually ideas are a dime a dozen. Execution - with 99% of that based on skills of all sorts - is what determines success. It's the hardest part. Getting the right people is the hardest part. PM me with your skills!
