We loaded up our 6 kids, the 2 dogs, the wife & myself along with all the stuff needed for a holiday visiting friends on Wednesday afternoon.
We didn't get far before the pre-holiday traffic caught us.
Slowly we made our way from home over a state highway about 30 miles out to the interstate (I-5) where the traffic was even worse.
After making our way over to the far left side things started speeding up, which was a shortlived relief.
Suddenly there was a large red truck stopped directly in front of us, I barely had time to get my foot on the brake before we slammed right into it. A car behind us did the same to our car about the same time.
The combined impact of both my car and the one behind us was mostly absorbed by the front of my Ford Aerostar van, it crumpled inward about 2 feet back pasting the radiator securely to the front of the engine.
We were all wearing seat belts, the dogs were on laps and were not injured.
Some of us have aches & pains, but no injuries and everyone in the other vehicles seemed fine - thats what they told the EMT's.
The airbag deployed in my face, that's a first for me. My eyeballs still hurt.
Our van is a total loss, I have no idea how the Wa State Patrol is going to affix fault (they said they would mail out all the information), we were insured for liability and medical but not comp as it was a '94 van - too old to justify comprehensive insurance.
The important thing is that no one was injured, and the other cars were able to drive away from the scene.
I brought along a new laptop I am setting up for a client, so I'm burning it in with Seti1 while away from home.
It's a Toshiba Satellite P4 2.8Ghz with HT, Nvidia graphics & Wide screen. (sweet) Seems to do an average of about 1.5hrs / WU
Our friends mobilized and came to our rescue so we had a nice Thanksgiving with them afterall.
Now we have to find a new vehicle, something with at least 8 seat belts. A Ford Expedition might be nice. 😉
