Well, it's gonna be new for us anyway ;)

For those of you who are car nuts, this isn't gonna be that impressive, but for my wife and, who currently own a '72 SuperBeetle and a '79 Volvo station wagon, this is a huge deal.

Here are the specs:

1992 Volvo 940 GL 4-door
121,000 miles
burgandy w/ a gray leather interior (leather is in perfect condition, as is the paint)
automatic
single overhead cam engine (less problems)
sunroof (does not leak)
power everything
brand new tires
new water pump
no scratches or dings
clean carfax.com report

only $3995 + $30 for a title transfer! :D WAAAY below wholesale. I was worried at first, but the carfax report and a quick check confirmed it was a great deal.

She runs great, and the guy let me drive her as long as I wanted today. I kicked the tires and all that good stuff. Clean trans fluids, brakes are smooth, alignment is perfect, the engine is spotless and runs smooth... I LOVE this car!

[edit] She still has a few things wrong, but they'll be cheap(ish) to fix. Problems are:

needs a new window regulator for the driver side: $125
needs a backup light switch: $65
needs new windshield wipers: $10
needs some inside panel work on the right passenger door: $?

That's it though!

Take this from a Swede.

It is a great car, not the funniest to drive but very reliable. Those cast iron block B23 I4 run forever.

Good to hear, FrustratedUser :) I'm a die-hard Volvo owner already, actually. My parents gave me their '79 240 stationwagon when I went to college which I've had for 5+ years, and that car is still running beautifully. This was why I wanted to get another one for my wife, since I don't want her driving the VW bug to work, and I certainly don't feel safe when I drive it either!

Was your volvo made in Sweeden or Halifax?

We've had one from both... the one from Halifax was a bit better.. not sure where our current one is from. This is our 3rd :)

Congrats! Volvo's are tanks. I remember reading an article online about a guy who's had over 1,000,000 miles on his Volvo, dayum!

I think you can trace where it was built by the VIN?

Those I4's go on and on and on and on. I loved the '86 245DL my family used to have. If only they had a bit more power. The 245DL was dog slow, can't imagine what that would feel like in the heavier 900 series. Someday I'd like to find a 245 or a 765 Turbo and restore it for for use as a daily driver and parts runner. Love to find a P1800S also.

ZV

EDIT: Accidentally typed 764 instead of 765.

For us, this engine will be PLENTY fast, especially compared to a '79 wagon w/ a manual trans :D 230,000 on that car, and still going strong.

During the test drive the car had a surprising amount of zip, and the handling was freakin' SOLID!

[EDIT] just checked the carfax report... says it was Manufactured in Sweeden, but it might just automatically put that for every Volvo?

Why do I always spell Sweden with two E's? AHH! :)

They were made in your hometown? That's awesome! How long have you lived in the US?

Yeah, despite what people say, they are fairly capable handling cars. They are fairly heavy, but not as heavy as they look.

The 700 & 900 series Volvo is (were) what the truck is in the US. It hauls lots of stuff and very well too.
30% of all cars are Volvo where I was born.

Nice car. Years ago I used to drive to early morning school with a friend who drove a Volvo about the same year. For some reason, I loved riding in that thing since it had leather seats, sunroof, and went pretty fast. Won't mind owning one myself.
