Hehe. Don't worry about it, I'm used to being 'overlooked' here at work when it comes to promotion time, so I don't let it bother me any more.. ;)

Considering the fact that we've been gaining about 1000 WU's per day on the Oracle team, we should be passing them by the end of the week! :)

danzigrules: Make sure you're using a screensaver that isn't CPU intensive. Blank Screen works nice. ;)

danzig - in an earlier thread, you said you just set the monitor to turn off after 15 min. This is not the same as blanking the screen! You need to set the screen saver to "blank screen" in order to save cpu cycles....got it? :)

Go to the screensaver display box and scroll down to the seti@home screensaver.
In it's propeties change the settings to say blank screen after one minute.

I don't think it makes a difference if you're using "None" or "Blank Screen". I don't use a screensaver on any of my PC's at home or my PC at work. I just switch the monitors off when I'm not using them. I've found that if I use "Blank Screen" sometimes I move the mouse and when it goes away there's a program running in my taskbar called "Screen Saver". I dunno if that would affect SETI performance or not.

This is what I do for a "Screen-Saver" In win95-98 use the Power Management feature to turn my monitor off after 10-15 min of idle time. That way the windows screen saver isn't using any resources.

Hummm...you guys have me going on this. The way I see it, shutting off the monitor does nothing, whereas, "blank screen" actually tells windows to STOP sending video input to the monitor (shut off the video card), thus conserving graphics related CPU cycles. Personally, I don't like the power management features in windows, that's for tree huggers LMAO ;)...I disable ALL those features so I can be sure to suck as much juice as possible running seti. It may be that telling power management to "turn monitor off" actually disables the video card tho since the monitor behaves as if there is no input. But, I certainly perfer "blank screen" because I know 4 sure that it shuts down the video card.

OK...now this is getting funny as $hit guys.

I just posted a thread on this, my son's 98SE didn't have the option under screen saver, WITH NO SETI@HOME INSTALLED, to choose "Blank Screen". You guys are getting confused here. There is a standard windows screen saver called "Blank Screen", I'm not talking about the SETI GUI scr that has that option, I'm talking about every windows PC in the world has a file in c:\windows\system\blank screen.scr. If you don't have it, then add it in from control panel...or give me ur email and I'll send it to you. :D

I discovered when I installed SE on my son's PC, I was sloppy and didn't install all the options like I usu do. That's why he didn't have it. Also, NT has the same scr file.
