I can slightly tickle myself, but not nearly as badly as if someone else were to do it. Regarding the above though, if that were the case wouldn't it only tickle for the first few seconds? Why does it still tickle even after the surprise is gone?

Despite the claims in the linked article I can tickle myself ... it isn't nearly as intense as somone else doing it but the sensation is the same.
