why can't we call it the 00s

I say for now we just call it the "new millenium" and leave what to call it 30 years from now to the ppl 30 years from now 😛

the only term i've heard that i can tolerate is "the 2000s." so far that has no ambiguity for classifying decades, because there doesn't seem to be anyone referring to any time after 2009 that often. btw, what did they call the first decade of the 1900s?
