Woohoo! I haven't lived in a house, basement suites excluded, since I was about 5 years old or so. My family was always super poor, so it was just apartments and the occasional basement suite when growing up. Anyway, subjects fully removed a couple of days ago, so now we just wait to move! :awe:

The pictures are awful as they are just from the real estate agent's site

No backyard, which is perfect because I don't want to have to take care of it and no basement. Nice little house, only 3.5 years old, and is the same walking distance from my current place which is freaking awesome. Fortunately we got them down about 16.5K from asking because it was a bit overpriced.

Anyway, just kind of excited. Going to be so freaking busy between now and the moving day! D:

Any tips so I'm fully prepared? :hmm:

Congrats! Looks really nice.

Is there a garage, or do you have to park on the street?

Nothing really to prepare for save the extra expenses.

Yeah, definitely putting money aside for some of the extra expense. Thankfully the place feels nearly brand new, so not too much to worry about in the way of maintenance yet.

Congrats. Any plans(or space) to build a home theater?

Heh, yeah not exactly sure what I am going to do there. Not sure I have the space to make a giant one unfortunately, so may need to do something on a smaller scale. :hmm:

Inside shots definitely do it more justice than the outside. You say there's no basement, but what is "under" it? There's almost 2/3 of a story ramp up to get to the front porch. Some kind of wierd crawl space?

Doesn't have that same high rise coolness that the screenshots from your last place provided, but it's nice not sharing a wall with anyone else and spending half your life climbing stairs or waiting in an elevator.

:)

Very nice house. Quaint but done up right. That sub zero is about $8000 hope it comes with it.

Haha, yeah, lose a bit of coolness, but make up for it with other stuff.

It's the garage below the house that bumps it up. So there is storage and whatnot in there, plus my car will go in there. It's definitely a very Vancouver house as it's smallish and has some weird stuff like that, but I think it works.

Yes it does thankfully! All appliance come with. I hate the stove though, so at some point it would be nice to put in a gas line and a gas range. Anyone ever done something like that?

That looks really nice.
How much? :p

Too much! :D

Nice! Looks pretty good, too bad there's no basement though, that would have been a turn off for me. But other than that it really looks like a nice house.

I guess this means I won't be able to peak into your apartment any more when I look across false creek. :(

Congrats on the house, it looks great. What area will you be in?

Yes. But not in Canada. I;m sure you need a letter from the Queen.:p otherwise I'd get some 3/4 black pipe, fittings and plumb it myself. I've also used flex line in difficult installations.

You'll probably need a contractor. In general I wouldnt advise homeowner messing with gas or electric. Obvious reasons. Wires burning causes fires.. Gas leaking causes explosions.

Congrats. Needed the tags before I got the title.

Any cleaning and such you want to do, should be done before you move furniture in. We had steam cleaners come in and do all the carpets since the previous owners had a dog. Try to get a way to contact the old owners since questions come up. Other than that I can't think of much. Since the house is new I guessing no repairs or such are needed.

Yeah, basement would be nice, but for what we were looking at it was hard to find a decent place with a basement in the price range and a viable location.

I guess you'll have to stalk me on foot now. :hmm:

Just on the other side of the viaduct.

I'm close with the Queen, so it's all good. No way I would do it myself, but my buddy runs a plumbing company so I guess I'll ask him. The thought of not having a gas range really disturbs me.

Hmmm, yes. They do have a dog, but no carpets anywhere in the place, so that's good. No repairs necessary, but will definitely have to hose the place down before moving in.

Congrats. Looks pretty nice. And there should be plenty of room for a home theater; maybe not a 140" screen or anything like that, but plenty of space for a large TV and some good speakers, with a sub tastefully hidden in the corner. Plus, since you don't share a wall with anyone, you can crank that puppy until it's knocking plates out of cupboards.

Those houses look pretty close together though. Can you reach out and give your neighbor a friendly high five every morning?

Yeah cooking with gas is only way to fly. Hence the expression "cooking with gas" I tried a $1500 bosch electric flat top because its easy to clean and looks nice and it wasn't 3 months before I got gas in there. I couldnt even get pans hot enough for brazing lamb and deep frying. Then when pans warp at all you're totally fucked.

Heh, yeah, they are pretty close together. Met the neighbours and they seem pretty nice, so I'm not that fussed. It's not like they can look in or anything.

I'm going to go with my existing set-up for now and see how thing go from there. I want to try and eliminate wires as much as possible, so I will likely need to post some threads in the A/V forum when the time comes since I'm not sure the best way to go about that.

Yeah this is one of those conductive tops or whatever? So annoying. It looks nice enough, but it's not even close to being gas.

I have to offer some sort of sacrifice too. :hmm:

I'll figure something out with the TV! Not even sure where I am going to store all my movies!

I'd advise against using him, then.
