We bought a used pool this week. We agreed on a price and I gave the seller half the money upfront. Me and my wife worked 2 days to take the pool apart and take it home.

We were told the pool liner was only a year old and problem free. When taking the pool apart, we found some patches in the liner the owner had made himself, both leaking. I emailed the seller the rest of the money MINUS $100 to account for the repairs needed to the liner.

He is not happy, but I am.

I am glad I did not pay full price up front.

Buyer beware.

WTF are you talking about?

Fuck loads of people have either owned, or know somebody who owned one of these during their childhood.

Pools are great, as long as they're in a friend's yard.

Why would you not tell the seller on the spot, when taking it apart, that you found problems with the liner and either wanted a discount or your money back? Seems shady take it home after having full access to the pool (taking it apart and taking it home), then decide you're not going to pay what was agreed upon.

I'm not saying there was no reason to want a discount, but that should be discussed.

Farm had a large AG pool when we bought it last year.
Had a small leak, so I drained it, patched it, cleaned it out good & filled it up.
Big mistake.
Stepchildren were here or dropping their kids off EVERY SINGLE DAY all summer long! One of them lives 1-1/2 hours away, & she would drop off her rugrats here at least 3 days a week, drive home, veg out, then call the wife & ask her to bring them home!
Kids running in & out all day, dripping wet, on the Laminate floors, the Adults hosting pool parties/ cookouts for their friends, what a nightmare.
I grew to resent that pool, so I sold it earlier this year, the couple that bought it have been taking it down for 3 weeks now, were supposed to finish disassembling it & loading it Sunday. Did not show up. They have until Saturday to get it out of here or it's going in the dump truck by whatever means available (Tractor with forks).

He was not there. But in a way you might be right in that I should have waited for him to come home, agree in a new price and then take the stuff home.

But what if he won't budge? I just spent 2 days and a tank of gas dismantling this thing and I am going to have to go back home, pick up the fence and return it to him.
I don't think so.

Had he been honest and disclosed the issues with the liner up front I would not have had a leg to stand on.

Oh well

I'm not defending the seller because I do not know them ... but aren't you showing a lack of honesty by unilaterally deciding to change the contract without first discussing it? If I had agreed on a price and the other party unilaterally changed the conditions of the contract ... I'd be pissed. You risk wasting the 2 days and tank of gas over the issues with the liner?

In today's world you risk a lot more by pulling things like this ...

It's a large turtle shaped bowl... you can do with it what you please after that. Sand, water, jello... ANYTHING!

A large liner like that could well have come from the store with patches already on it.

The seller will probably come to your house an knife your pool.
