We are the borg. Resistance is futile

Pretender

Banned
I finally decided to switch over from the nekkid crackers to the Borg of my own free will.

Live long and ....whoops, wrong saying, I mean .... Set a cource, full speed ....ack, that's not it either. Now that I think of it, I can't think of any Borg saying (other than 'you will be assimilated, of cource'😉).

"We aim to improve quality of life for all species". 🙂

True, really...And we know that you're after the Borg women. 😉

Pretender,

I'm sorry, but yes, TOOCOOL is right. We have a policy against accepting new Integrals who have been cracking for Team AnandTech for 30 days or more. I put this in place because the real goal of TA Cube is to grow new members. Just transferring existing members doesn't achieve that, and it could encourage canibalizing other mini teams.

I'm very sorry, we would have loved to have you come on board.🙁

Well, those are good Borgisms, but my favorite is still "We are the Borg and we are going to eat allllll your chocolate pudding!"

Ooops, I didn't know, and it didn't mention it anywhere on the site.

I guess I'm like seven of nine now...except I'm not female, and uh, largechested.

Pretender,

It's on the Joining TA Cube page under "There are restrictions". Again, very sorry, bud!

Ah, when I read that my mind interpreted it as the reverse, that you had to be an established cracker.

I don't know where my marbles are going but I demand a recount.

Honestly, I don't see the reason if someone comes up to you and says I would like to join the borg, they can't be accepted. I understand the need to try and not recruit within the team, but if this person was not recruited and wants to join on his own, what's the problem?

Might even look at it as a way to save a member. What if a member starts to loose interest and is about to leave and then decides he/she wants to be part of the borg and regains interest again? Haven't we saved a drone...uh, I mean member of the team. 😉

We have struggled mightily with this issue. Obviously we want to assimilate every machine on earth, but it isn't fair to the other teams and individuals for the Borg to accept established TA members (over 30 days)

The only caveat would be someone who quit, and then returned. We're not trying to be elitist - just fair, and build the team... Team AnandTech. Switching an existing member of TA to TACube does not add to the participant total. 🙂

There are two loopholes, not just one.

"There will be two exceptions to this:

1. If an individual would otherwise leave Team AnandTech altogether, without the opportunity to join a mini team, and they have decided that TA Cube is the mini they would like to join, then they would be welcomed.

2. If an individual had previously been cracking RC5 for Team AnandTech for a period exceeding the 30 days, but had subsequently left the RC5 effort, and now wished to return, they would also be welcomed."

I don't understand what you mean by

<< Obviously we want to assimilate every machine on earth, but it isn't fair to the other teams and individuals for the Borg to accept established TA members (over 30 days) >>

I'm not going to argue about it, I was just curious about what you meant.

I know there are loopholes, but I don't want to abuse them to join a miniteam. It's not worth it, I'd rather be on my own than be accepted on a technicality.

Hmmm. Not my team and not my rules, but the reasons for preventing an individual TA cracker from joining aren't obvious. I understand why you wouldn't want to get guys from an existing mini-team and potentially create some hard feelings, but why would anyone be upset if a solo person joined? It may serve to keep them energized and active, particularly if you guys got some hot-tub babes like the Federation. 🙂

By the time they get bored or whatever and start to drift away, it may be to late to keep them (I'm not insinuating Pretender is in that danger, I'm speaking "generically&quot😉. I enjoy having solo folks so I can compete with them in the stats, but there will always be plenty of those.

JonL, no worries, it's just that we have some sub-teams who don't want to steal members from eachother. You, for instance, as a new member from "outside" the Team as a whole, can probably join the TA Cube (Borg) sub-team if you wanted to, or be an individual member of Team Anandtech too, like I am.

Off course JonL you can join Team Anandtech on your own. No loophole required there. If you feel like becoming a Borg, make sure that you join TA first so that your blocks already done during the last year aren't lost for Team Anandtech (TA Cube can no longer have addresses retired to it, it reached its limit). Then, contact me to switch to TA Cube before 30 days are up and I'll accept you faster than Al Gore would accept a Florida vote. I'll guide you step-by-step for a Borg download/install that will take you about 90 seconds. 😉

JonL, 71k blocks for TA once you join!! 😛😀

Go here TA Page and click the I want to join this team button.

Welcome aboard!! 🙂

EDIT: 😱😱😱😱 Oops, didn't see the other thread where he already joined.

<< but why would anyone be upset if a solo person joined? >>

Jim,

Several long time participants not only became upset because of it, they quit Team AnandTech. This is why we implemented the rule. Obviously, losing members, particularly those who had been with the team for a long time, is counter-productive to the goal of TA being the best in the world. Not only is it bad for raw block production, it is damaging to team spirit.
