Bombshell: Sony Tells Congress 77M Accounts Were Compromised, Implicates Anonymous

Dear Greedy Motherf*ckers (sic) SONY,

Congratulations! You are now receiving the attention of Anonymous. Your recent legal actions against fellow internet citizens, GeoHot and Graf_Chokolo have been deemed an unforgivable offense against free speech and internet freedom, primary sources of free lulz (and you know how we feel about lulz.)

You have abused the judicial system in an attempt to censor information about how your products work. You have victimized your own customers merely for possessing and sharing information, and continue to target those who seek this information. In doing so you have violated the privacy of thousands of innocent people who only sought the free distribution of information. Your suppression of this information is motivated by corporate greed and the desire for complete control over the actions of individuals who purchase and use your products, at least when those actions threaten to undermine the corrupt stranglehold you seek to maintain over copywrong, oops, "copyright".

Your corrupt business practices are indicative of a corporate philosophy that would deny consumers the right to use products they have paid for, and rightfully own, in the manner of their choosing. Perhaps you should alert your customers to the fact that they are apparently only renting your products? In light of this assault on both rights and free expression, Anonymous, the notoriously handsome rulers of the internet, would like to inform you that you have only been "renting" your web domains. Having trodden upon Anonymous' rights, you must now be trodden on.

If you disagree with the disciplinary actions against your private parts domains, then we trust you can also understand our motivations for these actions. You own your domains. You paid for them with your own money. Now Anonymous is attacking your private property because we disagree with your actions. And that seems, dare we say it, "wrong." Sound familiar?

Let Anonymous teach you a few important lessons that your mother forgot:
1. Don't do it to someone else if you don't want it to be done to you.
2. Information is free.
3. We own this. Forever.
As for the "judges" and complicit legal entities who have enabled these cowards: You are no better than SONY itself in our eyes and remain guilty of undermining the well-being of the populace and subverting your judicial mandate.

We are Anonymous.
We are Legion.
We do not Forgive.
We do not Forget.
Expect us.

Ooops :D

Maybe if they didn't attack Sony weeks prior to this PSN fiasco they wouldn't have been accused to start with. Anonymous can cry all they want, they brought this on themselves directly or indirectly it doesn't matter.

Btw, wrong forum, console forum has a long thread for the PSN outage.

Not sure what you're getting at. Anonymous is anonymous. I don't see where they brought anything on themselves, other than some negative press. A few careless members may fall, but otherwise, it's just another day at the office.

Yup it's their own doing. Plus since Anonymous isn't structured, anyone can do something and claim they're Anon so that means it is Anon.

Cyber "terrorists," Cyber "Robin Hoods?" Meh, they're just dipshits doing it the wrong way. Big business isn't going to change policy because of Anon.

Yeah, I don't get what they brought on themselves. It just looks like Sony pointing a finger and saying, "It's not out fault."

Anonymous's message seems correct to me. Quite frankly, some very, very, very small part of me is cheering about it.

It's one thing to go after Sony because they see them as some big evil company that needs to be taught a lesson but when it's at the cost of compromising 10 million people's information, that's where they're off course and have lost any credit with those that might have agreed with their cause.

I personally hope they all get caught and have the book thrown at them. If they don't like Sony then boycot them. Sony has followed the law and they have not. Time to grow up and realize life isn't about everything being done your way.

Actually, I am not sure Sony followed the law when it comes to storing CC info. Also, there is no proof that anon did this, and they claim to condemn stealing people's personal info. They warned Sony that their security was lax.

It's not Anonymous. As the others said, they lack the structure to pull off something this sophisticated. However, their recent DDoS attack makes them convenient scapegoats for both parties. Even though Anon is pissed off at Sony, they've never been financially motivated. A group of disconnected script kids probably wouldn't even know what to do with that kind of data.

So who does that leave? I know jack shit about hacking but my best guess would be organized crime, or an inside job. It would have to be someone or a group of people who really know their stuff. Anon doesn't fit the profile.

Are you talking about the laws they created? If you look at it that way, then yes, I guess they do follow the law.

I never understand when people act like there is some group calling themselves anonymous. "Anonymous is everyone and noone. You are. I am. Everyone is." Even if you "throw the book" at anyone who has ever called themselves anonymous, there'd still be more ready to do the same.

Time to grow up and realize life is whatever you make of it, take charge.
