Once known for six figure salaries and luxury cars, we are now known for not being able to pay off minor credit card debt.

Has the changing of the guard taken place?

I begin working my first part-time job tomorrow (lab teaching assistant). Can't wait to move out of the basement, blow it all, and end up bankrupt.

We're just in a transition period right now is all. Once the wealth finishes transferring from the poor and middle class to the job creators the trickle down economics can start kicking in.

whenever i felt about complaining about life, my mother always said something like - what people earn here and the standard of living here is much better off than any country in middle east and most of asia and africa, so think about that and the millions of starving people in africa the next time you feel about complaining about life.

......and having been to most of the middle eastern and asian countries around the world, i agree with her.

life is never fair, though its upto us as to view it as a glass half empty or a glass half full.

As a guy with a six figure salary and a luxury car, I'd have to say that I really don't give a fuck about people in the Middle East or Africa.

I blame capitalism. Companies wanting to pinch every single penny at the expense of customers (products arn't so good, physical things break more often and need to be replaced etc) and at the expense of employees (lower salaries, pay cuts, layoffs etc).

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer, and the middle class stays the same but works very hard to stay there.

Also, I blame Bush. He may not be president anymore, but it's still his fault. Everything is his fault.

That's not true. What about Twinkies? You can't blame him for Twinkies!

It's amazing what people still blame Bush for. Obama has been in office for 5 years and he is still "bulletproof" on certain issues.

If we're all so poor why is it every drywall hanger is doing 85 on the freeway burning $4 a gallon diesel in a $50k stretch cab turbo Cummins dually pickup?

Maybe we've forgotten what poor really feels like. Might do us some good.

As long as people are allowed to walk away from their debt we will never be poor.

Maybe we need to bring back a form of debtors prison? Walk away from a credit card, or walk away from an underwater home, go to jail until you can pay back the loan.

this recession hasn't really been much of a blip for the tech industry.

when people realized that actual science / tech knowledge was more important than being a paper pushing lawyer / worthless mba / banker / real estate flipper the money started coming back over here.

its probably the best recession ever in some fields. same with medical industry. you know stuff thats actually useful.l

Well, it's still better than socialism/communism. All it does is replace the businessman with the government. Same shit, different folks running the show. The only person looking out for your best interests is you. At least under capitalism, I have a small chance of becoming the rich asshole.

That's bullsh*t! I've been in South Korea for two years and my life here is 1,000 times better than when I lived in America. A doctor's or dentist appointment takes me 20 minutes. In America a visit would take me easily an hour. I can get a $8 haircut. I don't have to tip. Electricity is much cheaper here. The list goes on...

I'm moving to Thailand in a few months. I can purchase a huge beautiful home for only $250.00 USD a month. Taxes? Hah! What taxes? And on top of that I can have a maid for $10 a day. It's paradise here! Try doing that in America.

People are still blaming Reagan, too. You realize that policies don't automagically change or go away every time we elect a new President, right? You also realize that the President doesn't create new legislation or change old legislation all by himself, right?
